The Calgary Luxury Market Heats Up 🔥

Did you know?

In 2024, Calgary experienced the most growth in the luxury home market segment - up 44% over 2023. Our growth exceeded what was seen in Canada's largest markets (Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal).

Single-family homes led the market, making up 82% of sales over $1 million, with a 34% increase to 1,686 properties. Luxury attached homes saw a 130% year-over-year jump to 287 sales, while luxury condo sales grew 31% to 71 units. Sixteen homes priced at over $14 million were sold. This is great news if you are considering selling a luxury property in the coming months.

Why Calgary's Winter Sunsets Shine

You may have noticed some pretty spectacular sunsets in Calgary over the last week or two. Vibrant pink, orange and gold skies that can make even the busiest of people stop and take a moment to admire them. If you are really luck and are in a location with a view of the mountains, our winter sunsets get even more beautiful.
Have you ever wondered why we're treated to such gorgeous late afternoon views here in Calgary, when other cities don't see them as often? There are a few reasons:

Less humidity: Colder winter air has less water vapor, which means less light is scattered. This results in more vivid colors.

Clean air: Cold winter air often comes from the Arctic or Canada, which is typically cleaner.

The Rockies and their Chinook winds: The Chinook telltale arches - smooth, yet textured clouds high above the ground - create a "stage" for the sunsets. With a clear horizon, the sun can shine for as long as possible on the arch as it sets, showcasing the many beautiful hues.

Sharper angles: During our winters, the Earth's closer proximity to the sun causes the sun to "set" at a sharper angle. This makes the sunset colors last longer.

While Calgary is not the only place to experience beautiful winter sunsets, we definitely do get to enjoy them more often! For a list of perfect spots throughout Calgary to view our wonderful winter sunsets, check out this link!
