January News

Happy New Year and welcome to 2026! I hope you had a restful holiday season and made some great memories with family and friends.

It's a new year, and with that we often contemplate what changes we may want to make in our lives over the next year. You may be considering updating your home either to sell, or for your own personal enjoyment. With that in mind, in this month's newsletter I've shared some of the emerging home design trends as well as some of the trends from previous years we are starting to see fall out of favour.

Speaking of new, I have an exciting new listing to share in the beautiful family friendly community of Strathcona Park! This corner lot home has so much to offer, including 4 upstairs bedrooms, a recently renovated mud room and a professionally developed basement. If you or someone in your life is interested in learning more about this amazing property, let me know! Strathcona Park is such a great neighbourhood - with quick access to downtown and other key areas of the city, fantastic recreation options and great schools.

After there being so many things to do in the weeks leading up to Christmas, January can sometimes feel a bit quiet and slow. But it doesn't have to be! I've listed 5 ideas below of things you can do to add a little excitement and adventure to this first month of the year.

You'll find last month's market numbers below.. Calgary's 2026 real estate forecast predicts we'll see a balanced market with modest, steady price growth over the next 12 months. As the year progresses, it is anticipated there will be strong demand for detached homes due to significant inter-provincial migration which will likely lead to a busy market for both buyers and sellers alike. If you are considering a move this year, or are looking to invest in a new property, I'd be happy to discuss your options.

Have a great month!

Feature Community

Strathcona Park is a wonderful established community offering a convenient location, a range of well maintained family homes and beautiful nature landscapes. Annexed to the City of Calgary in 1956, Strathcona didn't start being developed until the1980s.

This southwest neighbourhood is bounded by Bow Trail to the north, Sarcee Trail to the east, Strathcona Drive and the community of Christie Park to the south and the community of Aspen to the west. It is an amenity-rich area with restaurants, shops and services as well as parks, playgrounds and schools. There's also the local community association, that's been supporting the neighbourhoods of Strathcona, Christie (and now Aspen) for 40+ years! The Strathcona Community Association offers neighbour-connecting resources including exercise classes, kids' programs, seniors' activities, events and more!

❓Did You Know❓
Strathcona Park is home to 23 hectares of ravines that were set aside as an environmental reserve when Strathcona and surrounding communities were developed during the 1970s and 1980s. The community and the ravine parkland were named after Lord Strathcona. Strathcona was a Scottish-Canadian financier, politician, and philanthropist (1820-1914), known for his key role in financing the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway.

5 Emerging Home Decor Trends for 2026

It's a new year, and interior design experts are already making predictions as to what design trends are going to be popular this year! While most of us likely do not update our homes every year (who has time for THAT?) it is always interesting to see where home decor design is headed, and how it aligns with our own personal tastes. Trends are also a great thing to consider if you are planning a renovation or update in order to list your home. And even if you aren't planning on making big changes to your home, many design trends can be incorporated through small updates like paint, wall paper, furniture or even accessories like lamps, throws or window treatments.

Let's take a look at five 2026 emerging home design trends, according to industry experts:

Red-Orange - a Top Colour Choice:

Bright, bold, warm and inviting. One of this year's colour based trends involves adding this warm tone to your home. Whether it's a feature wall, a cabinet or a side table, this red-orange colour will brighten any space, creating a feeling of cozy comfort.

Lacquer furniture and finishings:

Lacquer brings a hard, durable, often glossy finish to furniture, countertops and more, providing a smooth, water-resistant surface. It is popular for both its sleek modern look and easy maintenance. The best part, is that laquer pieces fit into just about every decor style, adding character and depth to any space!

Mosaic Floors:

Mosaic floors are a popular blend of timeless aesthetic appeal and exceptional durability. They also deliver significant practical benefits such as moisture resistance and enhanced safety. They offer versatility in design that few other materials can match. Patterns can be simple, with calming neutral tones, or can be quite intricate, with pops of colour and detailed design. Some designers refer to this style of flooring as art for your feet!

Mural Wallpaper Walls:

Speaking of art, another emerging trend for 2026 are wallpaper mural walls. They offer an immersive design experience to any room. With many styles, patterns and imagery to choose from, it's easy to integrate this trend into your home.

Antiques and Artisan Pieces:

More and more, people are looking for unique, classic pieces to update their homes. Custom crafted furniture pieces and antiques (furniture, lamps and other finishings) are become popular ways incorporate warmth, character and heritage into their home's aesthetic.
